“10 Things to Do the Week Before Family Photos”

Try on everyone's complete outfit—including shoes. Get haircuts several days beforehand rather than that morning. Check nails, roots, brows, self-tanner, etc. Steam everything ahead of time. Lay every outfit together and take a phone picture; you'll immediately notice clashing colors.

How NOT to Look Hot & Sweaty

Recommend breathable cotton/linen, sweat-proof undershirts for Dad, underarm sweat pads, blotting papers, a handheld rechargeable fan, cooling towels before the session, water and a backup shirt.

Stop Matching Your Family for Photos.

Instead of everyone wearing white shirts and jeans, pick 3–4 coordinating colors and distribute them across the family. Mix solids, subtle patterns and texture. Avoid huge logos, neon and several competing prints.

Please Empty Your Pockets Before I Start Shooting.

Phone outline. Wallet bulge. Keys. AirPods. Sunglasses hanging from the collar. Apple Watch if it clashes with the look. Hair ties around wrists. 

How to Prepare Kids Without Making Them Hate Family Photos.”

Don't spend the car ride saying, “You better smile. We paid a lot of money for this!” Feed them beforehand, keep clothes comfortable, bring non-messy snacks, and let the photographer engage them.

Things to Avoid

We can remove a small dog leash, blemish or temporary distraction. But don't plan on Photoshop being the solution for wrinkled clothes, poor-fitting outfits, sweat-soaked shirts, chipped neon polish, giant logos, dirty shoes or everyone arriving stressed and 20 minutes late.
